If You Have Bats Living In Your Attic Give Knock 'Em Out A Call

Wild Animals Living In Your Attic Can Spread Disease And Cause Odors

Wild animals can distribute fleas, ticks and other harmful organisms that can spread diseases in homes, schools and businesses. Bats and other animals cause expensive physical damage and destruction of property. In fact it has been estimated that bats and other animals cause millions of dollars in fire damage alone each year due to chewed electrical wiring. Additionally, bird infestations in your home or building can pose a number of serious problems to both the structure itself as well as to the safety of you and your guests. Birds carry biting insects and parasites and their droppings contain large amounts f bacteria in addition to the unpleasantness of mess and odors.

Bats

Anyone who has had unwanted bats living in their home or building is very familiar with the unpleasant experience associated with the noise and odor that accompany such an infestation. What you may not be aware of is that there are also significant health risks associated with human exposure to bats. The most concerning are rabies and histoplasmosis – a disease caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. The primary species that roosts in attics and other human habitats in North America is the little brown bat. These bats can access building interiors via gaps or cracks as small as ¼ inch. Typical entry points include openings in soffit and fascia boards, misfit vent covers, damaged roofs and chimneys. Once established, a bat infestation must be handled by a trained professional.

Cleanup

We can also handle the repercussions from having bats or birds in your attic. Bats and birds will leave behind guano, droppings and urine that can cause a strong odor. Certain health issues, including histoplasmosis, are caused by airborne spores and organisms resulting from this waste. We will remove soiled and damaged insulation as well as spray a deodorizer that will dissolve all organic matter in your attic. We can then install new cellulose insulation.
